In order to understand Chiropractic, it is best to start with an understanding of how the body works. The nervous system controls every aspect of the body, from the brain down through the spinal cord and out to your organs, bones, and muscles. The brain sits inside the skull, the spinal cord travels down inside the vertebrae, and the nerves come out in between the vertebrae and travel to the various parts of the body. When we move, the vertebrae all bend and twist to support the body and protect the nerves from injury. Occasionally, when we bend or twist, the individual vertebrae can move out of position, pinch the nerve, and disrupt normal nerve transmission. This is called a subluxation.
As Chiropractors, we locate the vertebra that has moved out of place and use our hands to realign the subluxation.
